Paul Poovey: Trumpet

Paul Poovey is a critically acclaimed, versatile performer based in Atlanta, Georgia. Equally at home in classical, jazz and commercial styles, Paul has been privileged to perform in all of the lower forty-eight states, Belize, China, Egypt, Guatamala and Japan. A review by the Macon Telegraph describes a recent solo performance: “Featured trumpet soloist Paul Poovey had a brilliant, silken tone that was nothing short of spellbinding. Poovey negotiated the trills and scales, many at lightning speed, with stunning ease.”

Commercially, Paul has had the pleasure of performing with numerous national acts as they have toured through the Atlanta area.  Highlights include playing lead trumpet with Kristin Chenoweth and section trumpet with Sarah McLachlan.  Additional section work includes the national tours of Chicago and A Chorus Line.

As an orchestral musician, Paul holds the Second Trumpet position with the Albany Symphony and served as Interim Principal Trumpet with the Tuscaloosa Symphony for the 2006-2007 season.  He has also performed with the Atlanta Opera, Augusta Symphony, Cobb Symphony, Columbus Symphony, Gainesville Symphony, Ludwig Symphony, Macon Symphony, New Atlanta Philharmonic, Ocmulgee Symphony and Savannah Philharmonic orchestras.

In other pursuits, Paul has held the Principal Cornet position with the award-winning Georgia Brass Band since 2002, and he is a founding member of the Midtown Brass Quintet.  He is a core member of Balkan brass group Mercury Orkestar, Mercury Season Players and the Atlanta Trumpet League.  Additional appearances include Yacht Rock Review, Abbey Road Live, Please PleaseRock Me, Il Brasso Magnifico, Joe Gransden Big Band, Marcus Lewis Big Band, Drive-By Big Band Atlanta, Orquesta MaCuba, Wild Rice Latin Jazz, Full-Tilt and U.S. Beats.

Always pursuing opportunities to push his own limits as a performer, Paul has been a featured soloist with the Georgia Brass Band, Roman Festival Brass, Mercury Season Players and Ocmulgee Symphony.
